Stargate Ark of Truth

Thursday, March 13th, 2008

Mark and I just got done watching Stargate’s new ‘Ark of Truth’ movie. It was pretty cool. I still miss Jack, but I’ll get over it. I could probably write a lengthy review and you would all nod and move on with life. I’m going to skip that this time. There was one scene that I have to comment on and then I’ll be done.

*SPOILERS WARNING* (not that I think any of you care, but it’s only polite)
There is a scene where the Priors are torturing Daniel, Tomin, and Vala. There’s great music in the background and the priors are reading the book of origin to them (trust me, sounds torturing to me). That’s not all though! Mark couldn’t hear it, but I could hear a high-pitched noise! I know this exists because Warren showed it to us once and kids are using it nowadays as ring tones. Check this hearing test site to see if you can hear them. So if anyone out there watches Stargate and hears this high-pitch noise, please let me know. I want to know if it is just our dvd or if it’s real (I think it’s real). I can’t find anything about it on the gateworld forums though.

The Chronicles of Narnia

Wednesday, January 11th, 2006

Mark and I saw The Chronicles of Narnia – The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe last night. It was a beautiful movie. I fell absolutely in love with it. The special effects were very impressive. They were so well done, that it seemed natural to see a faun and centaurs and the like. The movements of the animals were perfect. I was also impressed how natural it seemed for them to talk. I suppose this should be no surprise since LucasFilms did the special effects, but I still enjoyed it a lot. The scenery of the movie was very elegant as well. It was almost perfectly done in so many ways. I felt like a little kid. As my boss said, you feel like you can believe that Narnia is real and I agree with her. I was entranced from the moment the movie started.

I also really liked the soundtrack. It reminds me at times of the soundtrack from The Last of the Mohicans; very little airy voice styling with a couple of songs. It is the same composer as did Kingdom of Heaven and Shrek. You can hear some of his tendencies at times. I am reminded of the (award winning) scene where Shrek is saving Donkey from the dragon.

Go see the movie or rent it right away when it comes out on DVD. It’s truly a beautiful and fun movie.

War of the Worlds review

Monday, July 11th, 2005

Mark really wanted to see War of the Worlds and I hadn’t heard really anything about it, so I said, “sure.” So last Saturday evening we trucked our way over to the movie theater and shelled out way too much money like we always do. Then the movie starts. At first, I’m doing pretty well, not scary, just the intro stuff that introduced the situation with Tom Cruise and the kids. 5 minutes later, I wanted to cry! I was terrified for the next 2 hours of movie watching, plus 10-15 hours after for recovery. I had to watch “Boundin’” from the Incredibles DVD to cheer myself up!
Why was it so scary? It was very graphic. Whether you like it or hate it, everyone seems to come out feeling like they wanted to die for the entire movie. It was just a solid 2 hours of darkness with no happy moments really in there. I don’t want to ruin it for anyone that actually wants to see it, so I won’t talk about more specific parts. Just keep this review in mind if you had some weird idea of taking your 7 year old to the movie. It’s a bad idea.

Love Actually Returns

Thursday, July 22nd, 2004

I also really like Love Actually. My brother liked it too, which amazed me considering he doens’t like any chick flicks. Going along with my planning for today…I think Mark should watch Love Actually with me for my birthday….in September. You can never plan to early right? If you want to know why I really like Love Actually see me former post here. Thank you and good night…or noon…or whatever.

BTW: can’t get trackback to work but theChris posted about this here.

Love Actually

Thursday, March 25th, 2004

I’m trying to stay away from entries like this, but this one has to be done.
I’ve seen this movie three times now (once in the theater with Kirsten and twice on video). I can’t help but be in the best mood ever after I watch this movie. It’s just so dang happy. Yes, it probably isn’t the best movie in terms of acting and all that jazz. But it is one of the best chick flicks out there.
And Colin Firth (known as Mr. Darcy to some) can’t be hated either. And the little boy (Sam) is very cute too.
